Richmond and Zetland Harriers
It was another outstanding weekend of running and throwing for Richmond and Zetland Harriers. This week they were competing at Sefton park in Liverpool for the next round of the cross country challenge series and the selection race for the British team for the European cross country championships, Wimbledon Common, Wensleydale Wedge, Ravenstonedale, the Harwoulds 80 mile Ultra marathon and even as far south as Swindon!
The British Athletics cross challenge 3rd round was held at Sefton park in Liverpool, the club had a very good representation and in the U15 boys had both Kyle Rabjohn and Charlie Stephenson taking to the start line. It was another outstanding performance from Kyle who finished on the podium again in 3rd only 4 seconds behind the winner with Charlie also having a superb run in 13th in his first race. After 3 rounds Kyle tops the overall standings! Marc Scott took on the senior men at the same venue and was only run out of 3rd in a sprint finish, but he did enough to quality for Team GB to compete at the European Cross Country championships.
It was race 3 of the LUCA cross country held on Wimbledon Common and Ryan Canizo wombled his way round in a very good 113rd (48:32). Rebecca Simpson took on the every so slightly undulating Wensleydale Wedge race and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The Harwoulds 80 mile ultra is run from Hessle in Hull along the coast to Filey and Kimberley Reeve was hoping to run under 22 hours, but broke this by an ultra mile (21:25:49).
Ravenstonedale 10k is one of those popular races for club members and this proved to be no different with Carl Jones just getting better and better to finish again in the top runners, this time in 2nd (34:21 and 1st V40), Carl Loughney continues to improve and was an excellent 12th (39:32), Pauline Whittaker another with a good run was 101st (50:51) and Nicki Buckett had a good run in 167th (59:25).
Dan Upton was the furthest south this week for the Swindon winter throws invitational and showed he’s in excellent form with 12:39m in the shot, 33:80m in the discus, 32.59m in the hammer and 10.97m in the weight throw.
Last week was also the NYSD cross country at Preston park with excellent showings from all our athletes and teams. First out for the club were the U13 boys and Josh Hammett took top honours (10:16), with Thomas Carter in 10th (11:20), Sam Archer in 11th (11:22), Ollie Middleton in 21st (12:30) and Thomas Greer in 25th (13:38). Giving the team 2nd overall. In the girls race Holly McCowie was 4th (10:59) and Olivia Jackson-Bowers was 14th (13:24). In the U15 boys it was 1 and 2 for Richmond with Kyle Rabjohn in 1st (13:42), just ahead of Charlie Stephenson in 2nd (13:49), Matty Cole was 5th (14:55), Joe Reeve in 6th (15:08) and Tom O’Mahoney in 12th (16:05). This gave the squad the team win. In the girls race Alana Teasdale was 3rd (16:36) and Maisie Squires in 13th (20:32). Dylan Soley (20:51) was 3rd in the U17 boys, Matthew Lambert in 4th (21:16), Sam Kettlewell in 8th (21:51) and Lewis Moore in 11th (22:54), giving them 2nd in the team race.
In the senior ladies race Jo Adams took the victory (21:57), with Rosie Adams in 12th (25:05), Lucy Verrill in 16th (25:20, 1st V35), Charlotte Wilton in 19th (25:25, 2nd V40), Stephanie Stephenson in 26th (25:56, 3rd V45), Rachel Smith in 27th (26:05, 1st U20), Pauline Whittaker in 46th (28:12), Fiona Wilson in 66th (29:45), Nicki Buckett in 88th (31:58) and Jane Bond in 121st (35:53). These results took the ladies to the team win.
The men's race was hotly contested with the massed ranks of Richmond's men to the fore, Rob Scott was 2nd (28:38), Carl Jones was 4th (29:08, 1st V40), Reece Dalton in 5th (29:33), Scott Wardman in 8th (29:45), Tony Lambert in 10th (30:03, 1st V45), Jake Stephenson in 12th (30:35, 1st U20), Josh Lincoln in 15th (30:56), Lee Davies in 20th (31:34), Mark Forrest in 22nd (31:44, 1st V50), Steve Middleton in 28th (32:09), Ken Harker in 38th (32:54), Leon Reeve in 71st (34:45), Anthony Jefford in 87th (35:34), Rob Lickley in 115th (37:51) and Ryan Greer in 180th (44:48). All these results gave the men the team victory.
At Catterick parkrun Lee Davies was the 1st finisher (18:07), Holly McCowie was 12th and the 2nd lady (21:04) and Garry Malton was 13th (21:05). Donna Riddler was at Fountains Abbey parkrun and was the 2nd lady (20:36). Steve Middleton was the 1st finisher at Northallerton parkrun (19:07), Shona Fletcher was 3rd and the 1st lady (20:17), Jason Hammett was 15th (25:05), Olivia Jackson-Bowers was 24th (26:26, 5th lady), Elaine Watters was 30th (27:21), Kiki Fletcher in 48th (30:25) and Angela Wilkin in 49th (30:25).
Ian Hepworth was 267th (25:51) at Sheffield Hallam parkrun. At Northallerton junior parkrun Sam Archer was the 1st finisher (08:14), James Wilkin in 3rd (09:22), and Kiki Fletcher in 22nd (10:44, pb).
