Richmond and Zetland Harriers
IT WAS another week of outstanding running from those of Richmond and Zetland Harriers, with many new PBs at the much vaunted Brass Monkey half marathon and the juniors in action at the Yorkshire schools cross country championships.
An ever growing number of our athletes took to the start line for the curtain raiser for the racing year at York, for the famous Brass Monkey, which sells out in a matter of minutes and too quick for many! Rob Scott continues his excellent form with another big PB, he set out with the leading group from the start and was in the mix in the final few miles only to drop off the leaders in the final stages to finish an excellent 4th (70:46, pb), he was followed in by another of our runners in great form in the form of Carl Jones, who broke 73 minutes in another big pb (1:12:57, pb) and the 3rd V40 in 12th overall, next was Ian Christon also with a new pb in 118th (1:21:55), then it was Lee Davies (1:24:07), Jeremy Pattison in another good run (1:26:13), Carl Loughney in 238th and another huge pb by nearly 3 minutes (1:27:33), following him was the ageless Graham Ewart (1:34:05), Lucy Verrill as 1st of our ladies in 456th (1:36:55), Rob Lickley in 566th (1:40:15), Sarah Gregory next (1:47:23), Tony Ditchburn just behind (1:47:24), Robert Haw (1:49:17), Pauline Whittaker in another great pb (1:53:26, pb), Ryan Greer was next (2:04:07) and Nicki Buckett in 1426th (2:16:58).
It was also the North Yorkshire schools cross country championships, with a large number of our junior athletes competing for places at the English schools finals. In the Year 7 Boy's race, Sam Archer was 15th, followed by Thomas Carter in 21st and Riley Harrison in 33rd. Matty Cole was 5th and Josh Hammett in 6th both qualifying to represent North Yorkshire, Tom O’Mahoney was 10th, Joe Reeve in 15th and Dominic Wilford in 41st. In the Intermediate boys, Charlie Stephenson took a very good 2nd, with Kyle Rabjohn in 5th and Daniel Francis in 8th. The senior boys had Jake Stephenson in 4th, Dylan Soley in 9th, Matthew Lambert in 13th and Sam Kettlewell in 16th.
In the year 7 girls Olivia Jackson-Bowers was 20th. Shannon Robinson was 7th in the junior girls, Alana Teasdale was 15th and Holly McCowie just behind in 16th. In the intermediate girls race Emily Francis was 13th and Rachel Smith was 5th in the senior girls race.
Alastair Wilkin was 9th (22:43) at Northallerton parkrun. Ken Harker was 5th at Albert Parkrun (18:38). Catterick parkrun had Robert Dashwood in 14th (21:23), Garry Malton in 19th (22:08) and Ian Hepworth in 60th (25:28). Deborah Jefferies took son Caleb round the course in his buggy at Darlington parkrun and finished 365th (37:03).
At Northallerton junior parkrun Jim Wilkin was the first finisher (8:51), Rebecca Wilkin was 4th and the 2nd girl (09:24), Olivia Jackson-Bowers was 8th (09:40), Kiki Fletcher was 21st (11:16), Charlotte Jackson-Bowers was 26th (11:35), Abigail Wilkin in 27th (11:37) and Sofia Wardman in 34th (12:42).
