Richmond and Zetland Harriers

THE cross country season continues at a pace for Richmond's athletes, with the Northern championships the latest big meet after the Yorkshire championships. The event was held at Pontefract racecourse and first out over the course were our U13 girls with excellent runs from Shannon Robinson in 56th and Olivia Jackson-Bowers in 187th. The U13 boys followed this up with another set of great results, Josh Hammett just missing out on a top 10 finish in 13th, with Thomas Carter in 125th, Sam Archer just behind in 133rd, Dominic Wilford in 140th and Robbie Lee in 167th. These results meant that the squad were the 17th team home. Alana Teasdale was our sole runner in the U15 girls and had a great run in 111th. An outstanding set of results came from the extremely strong U15 boys squad, with Kyle Rabjohn leading them back in 2nd, with Charlie Stephenson making the top 10 in 10th, Daniel Francis with another good run in 14th, then the younger athletes in this age group Joe Reeve in 123rd and Tom O’Mahoney in 155th. These combined results meant that the U15 boys squad are now the NYSD champions, the Yorkshire Champions and now the Northern Champions! Reece Dalton had another solid performance and was a very good 27th in the junior men's race.

The senior ladies were well bunched in their race with Elly Robertson as our first runner home in 281st, closely followed by Nicki Buckett in 285th, Fiona Wilson not far away in 295th and Pauline Whittaker in 342nd. This gave the ladies 45th in the team race. The senior men were represented by Rob Scott in 51st and Liam Fletcher in 536th.

Dan Upton continues his excellent winter of throwing with another great result at the Sheffield Run-Throw-Jump competition finishing in 3rd in the shot (12:55m) and then followed this up with a superb 5th in the Scottish indoor championships (11:96m). It was also the first of the new year 10km races, with Dewsbury being well known as a flat, quick course with the chance of a good pb and this year it was no exception with several being recorded by our athletes. Lee Davies absolutely smashed his pb in 72nd and the 4th V45 (35:29, pb), he was followed by Josh Lincoln in 112th and just outside his pb (36:44), Leon Reeve in 169th and another to decimate his pb by over 3 minutes (38:16, pb), Steve Sadler in 187th and another new pb (38:49, pb, 5th V55), Lucy Verrill in 397th (42:40) and Pete Richardson in 669th (47:24). It was also the NE masters cross country held at Wallsend and had Ken Harker finish as the 3rd V45 and Fiona Wilson also ran for the club.

Nikki Fullwood took on another big run in the South Devon Endurancelife Marathon and finished a fantastic 11th overall and the 2nd lady. It was also the inter-counties schools cross country championships with a number of our junior athletes involved running for North Yorkshire. In the junior boys Josh Hammett was 27th, Joe Reeve was 36th and Tom O’Mahoney in 37th. The junior girls had Alana Teasdale in 31st, Shannon Robinson in 34th and Holly McCowie in 36th. Charlie Stephenson was 5th in the intermediate boys, Kyle Rabjohn in 13th and Daniel Francis in 18th. In the intermediate girls Emily Francis was 39th. In the senior boys Matthew Lambert was 12th and Rachel Smith was 21st in the senior girls.

Catterick parkrun had Leon Reeve in 4th (18:39) and Ian Hepworth in 59th (25:44). Ken Harker was 8th at Riverside parkrun (18:11). Deborah Jefferies took son Caleb round the course in his buggy at Darlington parkrun and finished 322nd (36:10). Steve Middleton was the 1st finisher at Northallerton parkrun, (20:01), Jo Adams in 2nd (20:23), Rob Lickley was 7th (21:54), Alastair Wilkin was in 12th (23:22), Pete Richardson in 23rd (24:49), Elaine Watters in 39th (27:13), Kiki Fletcher in 65th (29:37, pb) and Shona Fletcher in 65th (29:38). Deb Jefferies continues her buggy running with 137th (33:46) at Hartlepool parkrun.

At Northallerton junior parkrun Ollie Middleton was 2nd (08:50), with Jim Wilkin just behind in 3rd (09:00), Rebecca Wilkin was 6th and the 1st girl (09:39), Kiki Fletcher was 17th (10:58), Sofia Wardman in 20th (11:27) and Abigail Wilkin in 39th (14:45). This week Sam Archer was 1st back (08:58), Jim Wilkin in 5th (09:38), Rebecca Wilkin in 9th and the 3rd girl (10:27), Charlotte Jackson-Bowers in 24th (13:53) and Abi Wilkin in 26th (13:56).
