20June Blaydon Races and much more A number of Harriers took the trip up to the Tyne for the world famous 'Blaydon Races” but the draw was more for the infamous black pudding and beer. Jeremy Pattison returning to form had an excellent run to finish in 195th in 34:40. Peter Armstrong was 284th in 36:11. In the ladies race, the flying Michelle Nolan was 101st in 33:11, 8th lady and the 3rd local lass (Newcastle area, chief translator and navigator for Peter)! On Wednesday at the Otley 10 road race, Mike Jeffries was again back on the podium with another splendid run for 3rd in 57:47 and only 13 seconds behind the 2nd placed runner. Ken Harker was in action at the Yorkshire Vet 5 miles Road Championships at Haworth and had a great run over an undulating course to finish 13th overall and 4th in his age group, just outside the medals. At the New Marske Everyone Active 10K, Ronnie Corbett is getting close to his best again with a great run in 23rd place and 3rd Vet 45 (37:59). However, not to be outdone, Lucy Goundry was 84th and the 10th lady and 2nd Vet 35 (43:40) and a brand new PB! Others who also ran were Steve Middleton who finished in 7th overall in 35:31 and top V35, Peter Armstrong was 42nd in 39:47 and Nick Mason in 44th (39:53). On Sunday, the in-form Michelle Nolan again took the top honours at the Rock and Roll, Liverpool half marathon in 1:21:34. This is becoming a common occurrence these days! At the younger end of the clubs spectrum at the North Yorkshire schools track and field championships, there were many superb performances by our younger athletes. The Inter Boys had Adam Walker winning the 400m in 53.1 and in the 3000m Reece Dalton continues his fine form with 1st (9:21), just ahead of Harry Robson in 2nd (9:55). Liam Rabjohn was 2nd in the Senior Boys 3000m (9:13). The Junior Girls had Eliza Withers finish in 6th (29.3) and Vanessa Roper (30.4) 7th in the 200m. Chloe Dalon was just pipped to the line in 3rd in the 1500m (5:12). Laura Kirkham was the sole representative in the Inter Girls and was 6th in the 800m (2:36) and was also 5th in the 300m (47.5) Anna Harrison was also running in the Cleveland County Championships (especially for Sally Harrison, I got it wrong once) in the 800m and had a great run to finish on the podium in 3rd in 2:35:8 At the recent Park Run at Darlington, Jo Adams was the first Harrier home in 3rd overall and the 1st lady in 18:14. She was pushed all the way by coach Ken Harker who was 4th (18:14). Josh Lincoln after a very promising start was 6th (18:19) and Lee Davies was 14th just outside his PB in 19:31. Shaun Purkiss was 24th (20:45), Shona Fletcher was the 2nd lady in 44th (21:37), Peter Armstrong was 52nd (21:55) and Pauline Whittaker smashed her PB by 24s for 94th (23:50). Another decimating her PB was Eliza Hack who was 70th (22:33), over 2 minutes quicker than her previous best! Also running well was Jane Hack, who again continues to improve week on week, with another big chunk taken off last weeks-time and 174th (28:23).
