RICHMOND & ZETLAND HARRIERS

Richmond and Zetland Harriers

IT WAS ANOTHER BIG week of competition for Richmond's athletes with track, road racing, multi-terrain and even a national title in the throws events. Dan Upton travelled to Brecon for the Welsh Masters and put in another top performance, taking the titles in the shot (12:63) and the discus, with another new club record (38:95, pb), 2nd in the hammer (32:26), 2nd in the javelin (28:73) and 2nd in the weight throw (10:85). With titles now from the Scottish, English and Welsh masters, Dan has now completed the Triple Crown, but will he go one further for the grand slam?!

At the Burton Leonard 3k fun run, Rhys Robinson was the 1st U11 boy with sister Shannon pacing him around. Shannon also ran in the schools 1500m held at York, taking an excellent win.

Middlesbrough was the venue for the latest NEYDL, with Ollie Middleton finishing 2nd in the U13 shot put (5:85), 4th and a new pb in the 800m (2:52, pb) and threw the javelin (9:69). Joe Reeve took the victory in the U15 800m also in a new pb (2:19, pb) and Shannon Robinson was 1st in the U15 girls 1500m, also in a new pb (5:03, pb), 2nd in the 75m hurdles (14:2) and 5th in the shot (4:41).

New Marske summer series 5km had a good turnout from our athletes again, with a number right in the mix for medals. Rob Scott was our first athlete home in 3rd in big new pb (15:24, pb), he was followed by the flying Steve Middleton in 16th and the 3rd V40 (16:59), then it was the fast finishing Josh Lincoln in 17th just behind (17:04, pb), the ever improving Leon Reeve was 25th and the 4th V40 and another one in pb shape (17:40, pb), Jeremy Pattison another one getting back in shape in 49th (18:40), Nick Mason in 135th (23:20) and Diane Adkins in 197th (28:26).

It was also the final race of the Harrogate Road League, which is run as a handicap with the quicker runners starting at the back of the field. Elly Robertson finished a good run (50:11), Nicola Simpson was 56th (43:39) and was the 1st V45 over the series of races and Garry Malton was 109th (46:37).
