01July NYSD and more Richmond and Zetland Harriers were represented this week by Ken Harker, who travelled up to Jarrow to take part in the North East Masters Championships in the 5000m and duly returned with another medal for his collection, but unfortunately it was silver as he was out kicked in the last 100m to finish in 17:47:7. Adam Walker was the top U17M, in York over 400m in senior company and ran 53:9 to finish 4th, but with exactly the same time as 3rd. Reece Dalton had a fantastic run at the Staveley Stampede 10k to take top honours in 36:03:6. Darren Cox had a good return to racing in 16th (42:28:4) and Sarah Gregory (35th) with another good time in 47:37:8 and 7th lady. On the triathlon front Holly Flannery was victorious yet again at the super sprint series at Ellerton lakes in the ladies race and the rapidly improving Jo Adams was 4th. At Darlington Park Run, Marc Scott again was first home in 16:11, an unknown called Scott Wardman was 2nd (17:04) and with a fine run in 3rd place was Andy Buckley with a new PB of 17:44 to give Richmond and Zetland Harriers a 1, 2 and 3. Shaun Purkiss was 33rd in20:40, Eliza Hack was 66th (23:07), Mark Fletcher 67th (23:13) and Jane Hack 161st, just outside her PB in 27:47. Albert Park Run, Middlesbrough had an unknown lady finish in 13th place and she broke 20 minutes in doing so to be the First Lady - well done Rosie Adams! Peter Armstrong was next in 20:02 in 18th, followed by Jack Adams in 19th (20:03). The return of the NYSD track and field allows the athletes to show case their talents over a wide range of events. In fact anything you fancy trying, then this is the chance to have a go and do something different. In fact our senior ladies “field team” would all have been medal contenders at the North East Veterans championships! So if any parents, who are waiting around for their children would like to put themselves forward for selection, then please see team manager Laura Dunphy. Slots are available for a range of abilities and full coaching can be provided by our own “master of the field” Graham Purvis.
