RICHMOND & ZETLAND HARRIERS

Richmond and Zetland Harriers

IT WAS ANOTHER ACTION packed week for Richmond and Zetland Harriers with the Northern area cross country championships, throwing competitions and a few park runs thrown in for good measure.

The Northern cross country championships were held very locally this year at Camp Hill estate near Bedale. Since it was so local, Richmond took a strong squad, the inform Rob Scott was the 1st senior man home from the club in 75th and Carl Jones again having another good run was 115th, even though he lost his shoe - sucked from his foot by the relentless mud, on the way round. In the U20 men's race, Jake Stephenson glided around the course finishing in an excellent 23rd. Not to be outdone, younger brother Charlie was just outside the top 10 in 13th in another top performance.

In the ladies race Nicola Simpson had another impressive run in 120th, she was followed by the flying Elly Robertson in 238th, Pauline Whittaker cruised to 264th place, Michelle Sprent-Broadwith loving the mud in 322nd and Nicki Buckett just behind in 324th.

Dan Upton continues to not just dominate the V40 throws competitions, but is also now starting to make a name for himself on the national circuit, showing that age is no barrier to improvement. This week Dan was at the Welsh National Indoor Athletic Championships and produced a fantastic string of throws in the shot put, to finish agonisingly outside the medals in 4th.

At Catterick park run, Ken Harker was the 1st finisher and a new pb (18:30, pb), Steve Sadler was 6th (19:42), Rob Lickley was 24th (21:10) and Ian Hepworth was 84th (26:03). Alastair Wilkin was 14th at Northallerton parkrun (22:31).

Stefanos Stephanou was 3rd at the home of park run – Bushy Park (17:13) with 1527 other runners! Kevin Bond was 20th (20:23) and Jane Bond was 234th (32:43) at Albert park park run. Kiki Fletcher stormed round Fountains Abbey park run, finishing in 185th and the 37th lady (26:39) leaving dad Mark in her wake (186th, 26:39).

At Northallerton junior parkrun James Wilkin was the 1st finisher (08:52), Matilda Ellis was 2nd and the 1st girl (08:56), Charlotte Jackson-Bowers was 6th and the 3rd girl (10:33), Kiki Fletcher was 7th and the 4th girl (10:42) and Abbie Wilkin was 9th and the 6th girl (10:54).
