RICHMOND & ZETLAND HARRIERS
Richmond and Zetland Harriers
IT WAS ANOTHER week of disrupted competitions for Richmond’s athletes, with the local and final cross country of the season at Croft going the same way as the Richmond one, in being cancelled this week due to storm Jorge! However, this doesn’t stop this group of athletes, with a few races that did go ahead and also the normal Saturday parkruns.
Tom O’Mahoney had another barn storming run to take 2nd place at the Run, Eat, Sleep 5km at South Shields. John Gray crossed the line as the 1st finisher at Northallerton parkrun (19:17). Over at Catterick parkrun, Rob Scott was the 1st finisher (16:26), Anthony Jefford in 8th (19:19), Becca Smith was 11th and the 1st lady (20:27), Nicola Simpson was 25th and the 2nd lady (21:12) and Elly Robertson (25:59). Kevin Bond was 23rd at Darlington parkrun (20:21).
It was Steve Sadler's last parkrun of his four week Australian tour and he didn’t disappoint, taking 3rd (20:53) at Phillip Island parkrun. At the Darlington junior parkrun, Matilda Ellis flew round to finish as the 1st girl (08:09).
Another Richmond old boy continues to shine stateside and smash records for fun. Marc Scott raced in Boston and not only broke the British indoor 5,000 metres record (previously held by Mo Farah), but also took the European record at the same time. Marc managed to take 0.29 of a second off the previous mark, to set the new record at 13 minutes 8.87 seconds at an invitational event. This time also sees Marc attain the qualifying standard for the Tokyo Olympic Games later this year.
