Wardman and Flannagan Win Triathlons

A fantastic week of performances from Richmond and Zetland Harriers this week. On Wednesday night the return of the Triology super sprint triathlon had plenty of harriers in the mix. Scott Wardman was the overall winner with a fine performance across the three disciplines and showed his class on the run, in which he turned second off the bike into a comfortable winning margin after the run. Holly Flannagan was again the ladies winner with a devastating turn on the bike to give herself victory after the run! Jo Adams continues to improve her biking and swimming but again found herself just outside medal contention in 4th (she missed Tuesday nights training which would have helped the swimming). There were also some great performances from younger members James Greer, Harry Robson and Ryan Canizo. So much so that it has inspired two parents to consider the next event in August. The editor did hear rumours that Messers Canizo and Greer senior are to go stroke to stroke, pedal to pedal and step to step in competition with the younger generation! They will have to hope that the marshall on the transition to the run is lenient with them if they are to get close. Not only did we provide some competitors but also an excellent marshall in Carl Jones and lots of spectators.

On Saturday Richmond and Zetland took over parkrun at Darlington with the red and white colours of the club not just throughout the park but also through the field. Liam Rabjohn was again 1st across the line for the 6th time and was just outside his pb (16:28). Harry Robson was 4th (17:37), Josh Lincoln 6th in a new pb (17:39) and Luke Hack was 7th also in a new pb (17:41). Jake Stephenson was 8th in yet another new pb (17:44) and Ken Harker in 9th and a seasons best (17:46). Michelle Nolan was the 1st lady in 11th and also a new pb (18:03), James Greer was 18th in a new pb (18:33) with Jeremy Pattison in 18th (18:45). Nick Mason was 23rd in 19:36 and Peter Armstrong in 28th in 20:06. Lewis Moore was 83rd (23:30) just ahead of mum Pauline Whittaker in 89th (23:54). Ryan Canizo was 104th in 24:35, Ben Jones was 139th and yet another pb of 26:11, Emily Kirby was 159th in a new pb of 27:01, Alex Canizo 200th in 28:45 and Natalie Wood 291st in 36:24.

Thanks must also go to the helpers, time keepers, number recorders and marshalls without whose help we couldn’t have had such a good event and for giving up their time on a Saturday morning. In no particular order, Jane Hack, Eliza Hack, Michelle Withers, Eliza Withers, Jo Withers (all had been volunteered by Simon who wasn’t there!), Helen Robson, Nicki Billows, Jacqui Keavney, Tom Nolan, Ella Nolan, Izzy Nolan, Carl Jones, Julie Canizo, Kiki Fletcher and Shona Fletcher (for picking strawberries for 2 hours) and Karen Newton for her excellent photos as always. Also thanks to Michelle Nolan for the baking which was excellent! This was the 3rd largest event ever in Darlington's history and being in the school holidays it was great to see so many people there. Dave Hack even managed to get an extension to his trip to Canada to avoid his duties!

Thanks to Hutton Bonville Fruit Farm for providing the strawberries for the event and if anyone wants a trip to do some picking they have some excellent strawberries, raspberries and currants presently! Please support local produce and a flyer is included in the photos should anyone like to get some!

At Fountains Abbey park run Reece Dalton was also in fine form and 1st across the line in a new pb of 16:40
