Rain, mud, raging torrents, cancellations and Europeans!
Lee Davies certainly likes to set himself challenges and he took to the Frostbite 30, held over a short 35 miles of undulation around Pateley Bridge. Not to be put off by the raging torrents, that required ropes to navigate, waist deep in freezing flood water, 4000 feet of ascent, more mud than you could ever like to see again, especially if you face planted in it numerous times (said Lee apparently), Lee battled to a fantastic 12th / 14th place (no one is quite sure who or what came across the line and it may have been a bedraggled runner or a sheep.
Steve Middleton is fast becoming the man to beat at Northallerton park run. He was again the 1st athlete across the line in spite of the worst Storm Desmond could throw at the runners (21:03). Ken Harker was the 1st of the Richmond runners at Darlington park run in 5th (18:07), Peter Armstrong was 15th (20:00), Nick Mason on his return from injury a very decent 28th (21:34), Ryan Canizo in 83rd (25:45), Natalie Wood in 152nd(32:56) and Alex Canizo just behind in 153rd (32:58). All these runners must be congratulated for making the effort and some good performances despite the high winds and deep puddles which don’t make running easy!
Once again our Tulsa Tornado, Marc Scott has been selected for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland European U23 cross country team to be held at Hyeres in the south of France. After placing 7th last year, Marc is now one of the senior squad members and still has another year at this level. Marc is the top ranked athlete in the squad over 3000, 5000 and 10,000 metres. It’s being covered by the BBC on the red button on Sundaymorning from 09:25. Marcs race is at, 12:26pm. We all at the club wish him all the very best success and hope that he does the colours of Richmond and Zetland proud! Maybe he will have the honour of having a storm named after him – Storm Marc, a force of nature!
Please note that Marc Scott's race is on the BBC Red Button at 12:26 on Sunday morning, coverages starts at 9:30am.
