The Christmas break certainly wasn't a quiet time for those of Richmond and Zetland harriers. Just before the break the junior members of the club were in action at the North Yorkshire Indoor championships held at the Sheffield arena. Adam Walker had an impressive run in the 60m U17 race and was 4th in a new pb (7.7s), with Sam Harris 6th in another new pb (8.3s). In the U15G race both Emily Harris and Eliza Withers ran big pb's with Emily 2nd (8.7s) and Eliza in 5th (8.9s). Sam Harris was also in action in the 200m (U17M) and was 4th (26.5s, pb). Abbie Robson was also 2nd in the U15G shot in a new pb (6:72). Harry Robson showed what an all round athlete he is with second in the pentathlon and set new pb's in every one of the events he competed in!

At Darlington Park Run Jake Stephenson was 2nd in a new pb of 17:39, with brother Charlie in 53rd in a massive pb (22:32), Anna Harrison was 60th (23:12), Ian Hepworth in 81st (24:10), Jane Bond in 163rd (28:21, new pb) and Natalie Wood in 209th (32:38).  Ken Harker had a good run out at the Saltwell 10k coming 35th overall but the 3rd V40 in 39:09 in very testing conditions! Jacqui Keavney was on the fells at Guisborough Woods race and was 4th lady and 1st V50 in 50.19.

On New Year's Day, Steve Middleton was the 1st Harrier home in 5th (18:08), Mark Flannery (8th, 18:17), Jo Adams (10th, 2nd lady, 18:35), Jeremy Pattison (11th, 18:37), Ronnie Corbett (12th, 18:44), Lee Davies (13th,19:02), Peter Armstrong in 35th (20:57), Shaun Purkiss in 56th (22:21), Lucy Goundrey in 90th (24:11), Nicki Billows in 170th (28:11) and a certain Kookie Pookiedoo in 227th in 30:48, which smashed their previous pb.

The next day Carl Jones was once again at the head of the field in 17:23. At the Captain Cooks fell race, Mike Jeffries was an excellent 8th in 34:10. There is photographic evidence that Will Smith has joined the infamous club of Ken Harker, Tony Lambert, James Greer, Harry Robson and Mike Jeffries in getting lost during a race. Unfortunately instead of following the junior route Will took the senior one! A compass is in the post!

Jacqui Keavney was again out on the fells on New Year's Day at the 9 standards fell race and finished 8th overall and also taking the 1st V50 prize (1:16:05), she was also 58th at the Loftus Poultry run and was the 2nd V45 lady, winning the usual prize of a turkey, which ensured that the Keavney household is still eating turkey sandwiches for the next 2 months and Andy Everard also ran the same race and was 138th. Jacqui also completed the Wild Boars Fell race at Kirby Stephen and again managed to be the 1st V50 and also a trip to a chalet in the Pyrenees! This is pencilled in as an altitude training camp and will be only available if we can squeeze the whole club in!
