28.6.17 Great Scott!!

This week's main event took place in the rather sunnier climes of Lille, where Richmond's own Marc Scott took on the might of Europe's best in the European Team Championships, his first time in a full GB senior vest. Marc was running in the 3000m and followed the lead for the first few laps, but the pack bunched up for the final 800m. However, with 600m to go Marc was boxed on the inside lane and with 300m to go he found it difficult to get out as the Czech runner raced away and Marc was in 5th. However, he found a way out passed and then hunted down the other runners in front of them, which included the 2015 European champion and Olympic finalist. Unfortunately, he didn’t have long enough and caught all but the Czech runner and Olympic finalist over 800m to finish in a fantastic 2nd in his first full international run!

Ian Hepworth flew the flag for Richmond and Zetland this week at the Staveley Stampede, held near Knaresborough, having an excellent run in 76th and the 2nd V70 (51:58). Mike Jeffries and Deb Pennock took on the Humber Bridge Half marathon and both turned in decent runs with Mike in 8th (01:17:43) and Deb in 983rd (02:00:54). Two of our athletes also made the trip up to Appleby for the 10k with Alan Ashcroft coming home in 9th (38:18) and Ken Harker in 11th and the top V45 (37:43).

This week Richmond and Zetland Harriers took over the running of Darlington parkrun and it was directed by our own Steve Middleton. Reece Dalton was the 1st across the line (15:56), he was closely followed by Rob Scott in 2nd(16:32), Lee Davies in 5th (18:29), Jo Adams in 6th and the 1st lady (18:29), Ken Harker in 17th (19:42), Shaun Purkiss in 33rd (20:48), Maisy Squires was 88th in a new pb (23:42, pb), Craig Morton was 116th (24:42), Thomas Greer in 121st (25:08), Ryan Greer in 126th (25:32), Deb Pennock in 145th (26:23), with Karen Greer in 275th (34:24), Becca Squires in 276th (34:27) and Mark Fletcher in 320th (49:53).

At Catterick racecourse parkrun Carl Jones was the first harrier to finish in 4th (18:13), Lewis Moore was 88th (21:05), Matthew Lawton was 173rd (23:55), Lucy Goundry in 175th (24:13) and Alex Canizo in 270th (31:03).
