Bucket Takes Podium Place

Not only where Richmond and Zetland at Jarrow this weekend but they also ventured down to the big smoke in London for the Anniversary Games, across to Kilburn, Masham and also to Wilton Castle. Performance of the weekend was not in the anniversary games where Marc Scott took on Mo and Co in the 3000m and produced a huge new pb in 12th (7:43:37), but at the unlikely setting of Wilton Castle 10k in aid of the Butterwick Hospice. Nicki Buckett was one of the 70 runners who took to the undulating course and had a superb run to finish on the podium as the 3rd lady (59:53)! 

Anthony Jefford took on the Burn Valley half marathon at Masham and placed in 40th (1:42:53), Robert Haw was also running and was 93rd (1:55:22) in the field of 222 runners. 279 runners took to the start for 7 miles over undulating roads around Kilburn, Coxwald, Byland, Olstead and High Kilburn, Steve Sadler was the 1st harrier back in 36th and the 2nd V50 (48:47), Tony Ditchburn in 69th (54:25) and Diane Adkins in 222nd (1:16:25). 

The final race of the summer road race league took place at Otley which is a handicap graded race based on the previous results from the earlier races. Nicki Buckett continued her good form in 39th (51:20), with Donna Riddler in 44th (36:32), Pauline Whittaker was 107th (47:46), Jane Bond was 136th (54:34), Chloe Dalton was 202nd(41:41), Kevin Bond was 211th (38:41) and Reece Dalton was 232nd (29:39). 

The senior track team travelled to Jarrow for the penultimate meeting of the league, they were well placed going into the event in joint 2nd, but had the chance to cement their place in the promotion slots. Richmond travelled with a strong squad and a few new athletes, but were shorn of a couple of key athletes due to other commitments. After a frenetic number of events in both the mens and ladies competition the Richmond and Zetland squad took 2nd place overall and where represented by, Pauline Whittaker, Emily Kirby, Jane Hack, Eliza Hack, Michelle Withers, Eliza Withers, Joey Hewson, Issie Starkey, Fiona Wilson, Laura Kirkham and Jo Adams. The men had Richard Kirkham, Adam Walker, Andrew West, James Greer, Luke Hack, Dave Hack, Simon Withers, Karl Murray, Reece Dalton, Liam Rabjohn and Mark Fletcher. Deb Pennick and Mike Jefferies raced in the Elvet Striders Willow Miners Trail race. Mike had a good run to finish in 2nd and Deb Hving another good outing in 105th and just pipped at the line by her father! It just shows that you are never finished!

At Darlington parkrun Will Smith was 2nd (18:21), Jeremy Pattison was 3rd (18:26), Nicki Buckett was 149th (26:51, pb), Craig Morton was 213th (29:37), At Catterick racecourse parkrun the course record was broken by our very own Rob Scott in 1st (16:27, pb), he was followed by Dave Hack in 3rd and a new pb (18:01, pb), Carl Jones in 4th (18:20), Lee Davies in 5th (18:34), Ronnie Corbett in 6th (18:53), George McCowie in 16th and a new pb (20:44, pb), Shaun Purkiss just behind in 17th and a new pb (20:46, pb), Alexander Chisholm in 52nd (24:18, pb), Lucas Holmes in 135th (30:21), Natalie Wood was 164th (33:13), Ewan Baxter in 165th (33:42), Susie McCowie in 185th (35:26) and tail runner Jane Bond in 216th (46:51). 

At Fountains Abbey parkrun Ken Harker was 4th (18:44). Steve Middleton was 4th at Northallerton parkrun (19:31), followed by Shona Fletcher in 6th and the 1st lady (20:01), Josh Hammett in 7th(20:26), Tom O’Mahoney in 8th and a massive new pb by over a minute (20:27, pb), Jason Hammett in 10th (20:27, pb), Mark Fletcher in 11th (21:43, pb), Ian Hepworth in 46th (26:13),  was 5th (20:53) and Michelle Hammett in 70th and another new pb on consecutive weeks (28:54, pb). Steve Middleton’s return to full fitness after his illness was nearly put in jeopardy on Saturday when he was led out for three quarters of a mile by Mark Fletcher. However, he needn’t have worried as it was the ultra competitive dog that decided Mark needed to go quicker than he thought.
