Great Runs in the North for Harriers 15.09.2017

This week even though the Great North Run gets all the press and we’ve had some outstanding performances in the past, Harriers were at fell races at Muker Show, Coxhoe, the Junior Great North, the Senior Great North, parkruns, Great Westmoreland trail race and the Vale of York half marathon.

Tony and Matthew Lambert and Steve Sadler took on the scenic and picturesque run up and down the hill at the show field at Muker which even includes fording a river on the way. Tony had a good run in 12th (14:30) and Steve in 34th (16:56) in the senior race with top honours going to young Matt who won the U17 race (13:22).

Deb Pennick ran the Coxhoe 10k in a very decent 67th place and time (54:32).

Our junior athletes took on the precursor to the Great North run on the day before and turned in some fantastic results for the club. Holly McCowie made the top 10 girls in the U12/13 wave in a superb 9th (17:17), Tom O’Mahoney also ran fantastically to finish in 13th in the same age group for the boys (15:37) and Callum Crisp in another excellent run in 36th in the U13/14 wave. Ollie Middleton in his first outing for the club produced an outstanding performance in 250th (21:37). Anna Harrison had a great run and was 17th in the oldest grouping (17:38).

In the main event Steve Middleton had a very decent return to quality racing in 164th after a few setbacks (1:19:47, sb), Jeremy Pattison was next back in 240th (1:22:19, sb), Simon Withers (1:37:40), Robert Haw (1:47:37), Kevin Bond in 5570th (1:47:40) and Deb Pennick was 11283rd in a very decent run (01:58:14).

The club also had another 8 runners at the Vale of York half held on the same day at Sherburn in Elmet aerodrome. This relatively flat course had many of our athletes using this half marathon as part of their marathon preparations for the larger distance to come in a few weeks. Ken Harker had a very good outing in 56th and the 4th V45 (1:23:24, sb), Donna Riddler was next in 230th and the 6th lady (1:32:41), Ryan Greer in his first ever half was 1301st (2:08:53, pb), he was followed by Diane Adkins in 1202nd (2:05:45, sb), Rebecca Squires was 1593rd in her first half marathon (2:30:46, pb), Natalie Wood also had an outstanding run to smash her pb by nearly 2 minutes in 1633rd (2:38:51, pb) and Karen Greer also in pb form in 1661st (2:53:39, pb).

Tony Lambert and Steve Sadler were out on the fells again for the Great Westmoreland trail run with Tony finishing in 3rd and the 1st vet (48:20 and Steve coming home in 21st (54:54).

Josh Hammett tore round Northallerton parkrun to take 1st (20:07) and Michelle Hammett in 34th (28:11).
