Harriers In a Spin 19.09.2017

This week Richmond and Zetlands athletes were circum navigating 10 laps of Darlingtons south park for the South park 10 miler, further afield to York for the Sundowner Triathlon, Reeth, Gateshead and the local parkruns.

Ken Harker and Anthony Jefford took on the 10 laps of South Park in preparation for upcoming marathons. They didn’t get in a spin or end up dizzy and had excellent performances with Ken finishing a gallant 8th and the 1st V45 (64:12) and Anthony finishing in a very respectful 16th (67:10).

A few weeks ago a number of our athletes took on the fell race at Reeth show with some outstanding performances, first back was Julian Simpson in 8th place and the top V40 (17:59), he was followed by new member Mark Forrest in another good run and the 1st V50 (18:23), Tony Lambert in 12th and the 3rd V45 (18:39), Harry Robson in 19th (19:45) and our sprinting fell runner Adam Walker in 32nd (21:30). Rebecca Simpson one of our 2nd claim runners was the 3rd lady (22:13). In the U17 race, Matthew Lambert was a very credible 5th (14:27).

At the Tartan track meeting held at Gateshead our two 400 metre athletes were in action with both taking comfortable victories in their respective age groups. James Davidson took the win the U17 race (51:86) and Adam Walker taking the victory in the junior men race (53:17).

Carl Jones took on the rather small matter of a half iron man at the Allenthorpe Lakeland Park near York. This involves the small matter of 1.2 miles swim, a 56 mile bike ride and finishing with a half marathon of 13.1 miles! Carl finished in a fantastic 24th (4:37:52) with a superb run at the end (1:30:21).

At Catterick racecourse parkrun Daniel Francis was 1st home for the club taking the win, smashing his pb in the process for the 2nd week in a row (18:02, pb), Dave Hack was 5th (19:02), Tom O’Mahoney was 10th smashing his pb in the process (19:42, pb), Lewis Moore was 12th (20:18), Ralph Chisholm was next in 16th (20:48), Holly McCowie was 29th and the 2nd lady (22:17), Thomas Greer was 53rd (25:59), Ali Chisholm was 73rd (28:21) and Karen Greer was 113th (33:38). Ken Harker and Nicki Buckett ran Darlington parkrun with Ken finishing 5th (18:50) and Nicki in 155th (28:06).

Rob Scott took top honours at Fountains Abbey parkrun (1st, 16:27), with Donna Riddler in 19th and the 1st lady (20:17) and Diane Adkins ran at Sedgefield parkrun finishing in 122nd (28:11).

The club would like to wish all our athletes who are heading off to University or College all the best of luck and remember to continue your training as we are sure there will be cross countries at Christmas and the track league in the summer that you’ll be available for!
