WHITBY WEATHER 16/11/17
WHITBY WEATHER
This week the main focus for the harriers was the cross country held at Whitby with the lure of fish and chips post run. However, with the rest of the area basking in cool but glorious sunshine it was the complete opposite in Whitby. Driving rain, sleet and high winds produced an interesting afternoon for the hardy souls that ventured onto the course. As the afternoon wore on the course got muddier, wetter, slippier and by the time the final race of the day was held it was a fitting reminder of Armistice day and the mud of Passchendaele on which anniversary it fell.
Ollie Middleton was first out on the course in the U11 boys race and had another brilliant performance to finish in 7th and Olivia Briggs had another good run in 14th in her race in the same girls age group. In the U13 boys race, Josh Hammett was an excellent 2nd, with good performances from Matthew Cole in 6th, Dominic Wilford in 7th, Liam Clement in 11th, Thomas Greer in 14th and the ever improving Lucas Holmes in 17th. This gave the U13 boys squad the team win. The U13 girls team also had some great performances with Alana Teasdale in 5th, Holly McCowie just behind in 6th and Shannon Robinson in 10th, giving them 2nd in the team race. Kyle Rabjohn produced another excellent performance in 2nd in the U15 boys race, Charlie Stephenson had another top run in 3rd, Daniel Francis was another in good form in 5th, Ralph Chisholm continues to improve in 10th and George McCowie running well in 12th. These results gave them the team win. Emily Francis was a very good 5th in the U15 girls race. Matthew Lambert was the first runner back for Richmond in the U17 boys race in 4th, he was followed by Will Smith in 8th, Jake Stephenson in 11th, Sam Kettlewell in 12th and another good run from Lewis Moore in 13th. This gave the team 2nd place.
In the senior ladies race Laura Kirkham had a good run in 13th and the 3rd U20, she was followed by Chloe Dalton running well in 19th, Jacqui Keavney was 20th and the 3rd V50 runner, Stephanie Stephenson was 23rd and another good performance, Pauline Whittaker was 43rd, followed by the ever improving Kiska Wilson in 49th, Nicki Buckett in 65th and Jane Hack in 85th. These results gave the ladies team 4th overall. Reece Dalton again produced a superb run to finish 2nd in the senior mens race and 1st U20, he was followed just behind by the inform Rob Scott in 4th, Scott Wardman with another good run in 9th, Luke Hack was 19th and the 3rd U20, then it was Steve Middleton in 27th and the 3rd V40, Harry Robson was just behind in 28th, Julian Simpson was 36th, Ken Harker 75th, James Greer in 81st, Mark Fletcher in 122nd and Ryan Greer with another excellent run in 151st. These combined results gave the mens team top spot!
Diane Adkins was over in Newcastle for the Town Moor Memorial 10k and finished in a very pleasing 56:25.
Shannon Robinson competed at the Harrogate and Craven schools cross country finishing in 3rd place qualifying her for the Yorkshire trials.
Kev and Jane Bond took the long road to the lakes for Keswick parkrun to finish in 15th (20:50) and 106th (30:26) respectively. Diane Adkins was 151st in her 150th parkrun at Sedgefield (28:42).
Katie Middleton was 82nd (35:35) and Shona Fletcher 83rd (35:35) at Northallerton parkrun.
At Catterick parkrun Dave Hack was 1st overall (18:19), flowed closely by Tom O’Mahoney in 4th (19:38), Holly McCowie was 12th and the 1st lady (21:39), Ryan Greer was 20th another with a huge new pb (24:28, pb), Nicki Buckett was 42nd (27:09, pb) and Karen Greer smashing her pb in 58th (29:32, pb). Ken Harker was 3rd at Darlington parkrun (18:33).
In other news Ken Harker and James Greer are now back to normal after suffering near hypothermia and it was noted that James was nearly blue as he left the course at the end of the race on Sunday. It was fantastic to see that James and Luke travelled back from the warm shores of Loughborough for the lure of a freezing day at Whitby, but then the fish and chips are better at the sea side even if it wasn’t the weather for a trip!
