Harriers Fly
This week Richmond's Harriers were running and competing at Liverpool, Manchester, Middlesborough, Darlington, Stockton, Huntingdon and Jarrow. Ian Christon took the trip to the Mersey for the Liverpool Rock and Roll half marathon which turned out to be an extremely hot day and not suited for running this distance. Ian finished in an excellent 92nd (1:26:33, sb).
At Stockton on Tees in the Summer trail race, Dan Francis finished 2nd overall and the 1st youth (17:02), he was followed by Joe Reeve in 19th and the 2nd youth (19:49), Emily Francis also ran and Kimberley Reeve finished at the 6th lady (22:57). Tom O’Mahoney finished 4th in the U15 3000m in the Yorkshire championships (10:44) and 11th place in the 1500m with a big new pb (5:01, pb).
Carl Jones continues to impress in triathlon over the half Iron Man distance, finishing his recent event in Huntingdon after swimming, biking and then the run in 7th overall and 1st in his age group. The half run was completed in a fantastic time (1:17:26).
The most recent NYSD at Darlington had Tom O’Mahoney in 4th over 800m in heat 1 of the U15 in a new pb (02:30:06, pb). Ken Harker continues to improve with 6th in the A race over 800m in another seasons best (2:22:2, sb). In the senior 200m A race Adam Walker (23:5) finished just ahead of Ben Ross Russell in a new pb (23:9, pb).
In the North East Youth Development league there were some great performances from our younger athletes. Abbie Robson just returned from a major injury showed it hasn’t affected her with a great throw in the javelin to improve her pb and winning the U17 girls (27:47, pb). Tom O’Mahoney was also in action and was 5th in the 800m in a new pb (02:29:03, pb), 2nd in the discus and 3rd in the javelin in the U15 boys.
The Great Manchester Run was held last week and of course had our athletes at the fore of the results with Kyle Rabjohn again flying to 1st in the junior great run over 2.5km (7:35). Elder brother Liam also took to the start line in the elite race which was won by Mo Farah and finished a decent 36th in the 10km (33:56).
