RICHMOND & ZETLAND HARRIERS 06/08/2018
Richmond and Zetland Harriers
RICHMONDS athletes were out and about competing at Jarrow, Darlington and York this week. Competitions ranged from 10km, track masters meeting and even the last senior track league match in division 2 for this season. Ken Harker, Nicki Buckett, Pauline Whittaker and Jane Bond took the trip to Jarrow for the latest North East Masters Athletics track meet. Everyone came back with either a seasons or new personal best. Ken Harker ran the 800m and was the 1st V45 finisher in big seasons best time (2:18:4, sb). Pauline Whittaker was the 2nd V50 in her 800m (02:56:1), the 1st V50 in the 200m (34.1) and part of the victorious ladies V45 relay team in both the 100 and 400m with Jane Bond and Nicki Buckett. Jane threw the shot to a new pb (5:20), ran the 200m in another new pb time (44:01, pb), produced another new pb in the 400m (03:55, pb) and was part of the victorious 100 and 400 relay team. A couple of newer members to the club took on the York 10km with Rob Likley in first race in a club vest produced a fine run (41:51) and Zabi Dashwood also showing her talent for the 10km (60:53). The results came in for the gruelling James Herriot trail race held over 14km with the club's runners all to the fore of the 236 entrants and claiming a great men's team win even with heavy rain and wind ravaging the course. Channel 5 even were filming for the Yorkshire vet, so a few of our runners will be famous come January. The in-form Carl Jones was flying from the off and was leading by over a minute at half way, so much so that he was even ahead of the marshal who was meant to direct him, unfortunately with a wrong turn he literally hit a stone wall, got back on course but by that stage couldn’t catch the front runners but still finished a superb 4th (60:27, 1st V40), not far behind with another excellent run was David Hack (61:20) and another cracking performance from Mark Forrest in 9th and claiming the V50 win (61:75). Carl Loughney continues to run well and was a very good 17th (64:05), Rob Lickley another with a good run in 50th (71:27), the ever improving Robert Dashwood in 53rd (71:88), another to run well was Lucy Verrill in 71st (74:52), Kimberley Reeve in a decent 90th (76:55) and the ever improving Nicki Buckett in 189th (93:03).
