Richmond and Zetland Harriers
This week the Harriers were out and about at Snape, Sutton on the Forest and Settle.
The English schools fell running competition was held at Giggleswick school in Settle and three of our junior runners took on the fell race. Joe Reeve ran in the year 8/9 race and finished a very good 54th (25:14) however Dan Francis had a fantastic run to finish in 24th in the year 10/ 11 race (27:48) with sister Emily in 100th (37:43). Emily helped Richmond school to 3rd in the girls team race.
Ian Hepworth was a very good 78th (4th V60+) at the Sutton on Forest 10km (52:48) and Elaine Watters also running well (56:26). The Turpin challenge is a 6 hour race held around York in 4.37 mile laps in which you can run as much or as little as you like, it even goes past Tyburn the supposed execution place of Dick Turpin and Diane Adkins took to the start line and finished a very credible 5 laps in under 4 hours.
The local Snape 10km trail race is always a big draw for our athletes and this year was no exception. The shorter 5km race goes off prior to the main event and our younger runners were right to the fore of the race. Tom O’Mahoney was a fantastic 2nd overall (21:29), Shannon Robinson again right on Tom’s heels in 4th overall and the 1st girl (21:50), then Ollie Middleton in 9th overall and 1st U13 (24:30), Sarah Gregory in a solid 10th (24:44 and 1st V45) and Olivia Briggs who was a fantastic 4th in her age category (31:32). In the main race Steve Middleton stormed to victory in an excellent time for the course (35:55) and Ian Christon in another good performance in 4th (37:32).
Pauline Whittaker was the 2nd V50 at the North East Masters Pentathlon competition taking the shot, long jump, javelin, 200 and 800m. Steve Middleton was once again running in the York 5km series where he finished 7th in the latest round (16:57) but continues to lead the standings going into the last two rounds.
Lee Davies was 2nd at Darlington parkrun in new big pb (17:20, pb), David Hack was 4th (17:44), Ronnie Corbett in 12th (19:19) and Garry Malton in 43rd (21:46). Perth parkrun had Mark Crawford in 3rd (18:24). At Northallerton parkrun Lucy Verill was 15th and the 1st lady (22:58). Shaun Purkiss travelled to Penrhyn for their parkrun and was a very good 7th (20:57).
